CHINA, Nanjing Road, Downtown Tianjin

Nanjing Road, a 3 km long urban street that was formerly a river, was perceived as lacking a sense of place and could be enhanced to serve as a major Urban Street in Tianjin.
After visual and historic site explorations and several comparative analyses, a positive/negative space evaluation was established to identify potential public plazas and EVENT SPACES.

One of these Nodal Plazas included a historic enclave (Xia BaiLu) which was studied in further detail to invoke its latent urban quality and add to the richness of New Nanjing Road.
